Conservative Club, Long Street 8pm | £10
Great tunes and infectious rhythms from the latest quartet led by South African pianist Philip Clouts.
Featuring outstanding music from that country’s legends, including Abdullah Ibrahim, Miriam Makeba, Dudu Pukwana and Hugh Masakela.
The band features saxophonist Neil Maya, who was praised by the Teignmouth Jazz Festival for his electrifying performance with crisp melody lines and improvisation plus Marcus Vergette on bass and Lee Miller on drums.
Born in Cape Town, Clout’s enthusiasm for this highly enjoyable South African style of jazz is obvious, and welcome.
“Emotionally-felt, highly listenable melodies and improvisations which colourfully lift the spirits” – Adrian Pallant – ap-reviews.com
